USCG Life Jackets for Lake House Days
If the reunion or lake house includes a dock, pontoon, or “we’ll just go out for a minute,” life jackets are not optional décor. USCG-approved PFDs that fit the actual humans on the trip beat the three adult XL foam vests that have lived in the boathouse since 2009. Kids’ sizes and a couple of adjustable adult vests cover most mixed crews.
What Separates Good from Great
USCG approval
is the filter. Cute floatie culture is not a substitute.
Fit by wearer
adult dual-size foam vests for guests; properly sized kids’ PFDs for every child who goes near the water.
Activity match
basic Type III foam for pontoon / casual boating; more mobile hinged / rapid-dry styles if people are swimming off the boat or using PWCs.
Count for guests
pack for the max headcount on the water, not the optimistic “only the kids will wear them” count.
House gear claim
assign who brings the PFD bag before arrival so you’re not shopping at the marina at Saturday prices.
